ZBiotics is a science-first company that builds consumer products using biotechnology. We are the world’s first maker of genetically engineered probiotics: probiotic bacteria designed to improve our health in specific, functional ways, sold direct-to-consumer (DTC). We’re funded by Y Combinator (W18), Oyster Ventures, and Khosla Ventures, and recently secured a new round of funding.

We have a new vision for genetic engineering: transparent, responsible, and consumer-first. In service of that vision, we launched our first product last year: a probiotic engineered to break down acetaldehyde, an unwanted byproduct of alcohol associated with the day-after effects of drinking.

We’re seeking a Head of E-Commerce who can own the strategy and technical implementation of our DTC experience. This means managing our website, customer acquisition funnel, analytics stack, and online customer experience. Our need for this role is underlined by recent rapid growth and increasing web traffic. In addition, our 2nd product is scheduled to come to market soon, making it crucial for us to have a best-in-class multi-product DTC platform.

The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of the e-commerce landscape, the best tools available, and the strategies and tactics that will take our DTC platform from basic to advanced. They will combine data-driven analysis, expansive creativity, and precise execution to create incredible customer experiences that support the ZBiotics brand.

As employee #7 in a growing startup, the candidate will play an instrumental role in building the long-term foundation of ZBiotics. They will be based in our San Francisco headquarters and will work primarily with the company’s founders and VP of Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain ZBiotics.com as a best-in-class online experience for visitors and customers
  • Optimize the DTC conversion funnel by designing and running experiments to improve performance
  • Build custom landing pages, email automations, and SMS flows
  • Improve ZBiotics’ analytics capabilities, with specific focus on marketing attribution
  • Build analytics reports and dashboards for use in weekly meetings
  • Manage contractors, including contract engineers
  • Lead website redesign within next 9 months
  • Partner closely with marketing team to support customer acquisition initiatives and content strategy
  • Engage in merchandising projects: e.g., proposing new SKUs/bundles, experimenting with personalization; piloting subscription and subscription alternatives, etc.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of work experience with a strong focus on growth marketing and the technical aspects of the customer journey. 2+ years of hands-on work experience in a direct-to-consumer (DTC) brand is strongly preferred
  • High proficiency in web development languages (HTML/CSS/Javascript) is necessary. Proficiency with Shopify is a strong plus
  • Deep understanding of conversion rate optimization, A/B testing, and experimental design
  • Inside-out knowledge of Google Analytics; comfortable using tools such as Google Optimize; experience with other business intelligence tools is a strong plus
  • Excellent writing and analytics skills; ability to present data in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience working independently and managing your own schedule is essential 
  • Design sense and ability to build digital assets is a strong plus

The position will be remote work-from-home until San Francisco’s stay-at-home order is lifted, at which point the position will be on-site at our office at 181 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94105.
