About ZBiotics

ZBiotics is a consumer health startup pioneering the category of genetically engineered probiotics. Our team of PhD scientists takes traditional probiotics and enhances them – giving them powerful new functionalities that improve human health and enrich daily life. We incorporate these new probiotics into our own branded products and sell them direct-to-consumer (DTC).

Our first product – the world’s first ever genetically engineered probiotic to go to market – helps people feel better the day after drinking alcohol by breaking down acetaldehyde, one of alcohol’s toxic byproducts. We launched this product in August 2019, and since then we’ve closed a Seed Round of funding and successfully developed product #2, which will launch in 2021. We’re backed by Y Combinator (W18), Oyster Ventures, and Khosla Ventures.

About the role

ZBiotics is seeking a highly motivated, brand-first marketer to join our team and accelerate the next chapter of ZBiotics’ growth. The role will drive growth strategy, experiment with new channels, optimize current channels, and generally up-level growth marketing efforts for customer acquisition and retention.

This role will report directly to the VP of Marketing and work closely with the company’s founders. Our San Francisco-based team is currently operating remotely. Ideally the candidate is based in the San Francisco area, but applications for national, remote work will be considered for the right candidate. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications, we may consider contract-to-hire preferable to immediate full-time employment.

What we’re looking for

This role requires a holistic marketer who seamlessly combines an elevated brand sense with exceptional growth marketing skills. 

The ideal candidate will have excellent fundamentals. They will value and understand branding, be good with numbers, write well, and have good design sensibilities. We are looking for someone with a potent combination of smarts, motivation, and willingness to learn.

In addition, they will be highly systematic and come with a deep executional understanding and passion for growth marketing, digital marketing, paid media, brand marketing, data analytics, and project management. Experience with Paid Social, Paid Search, Podcasts, Affiliate, SEO, CRM, and Influencer will be valued.


  • Own day-to-day operation and optimization of core ZBiotics growth marketing programs.
  • Test and scale new acquisition channels quickly and efficiently, both directly and using agency partners.
  • Produce analysis, insights and visibility on performance that informs future initiatives.
  • Pilot and optimize retention and customer experience initiatives.
  • Improve the funnel by helping build landing pages, email/SMS flows, and site content.
  • Develop stand-out campaigns and out-of-the-box initiatives that drive brand affinity.
  • Roll up sleeves to accomplish what needs to be done.


  • Proven marketer who understands and has worked across the full marketing funnel, with DTC experience preferred.
  • Brand consciousness, with good design sense, writing skills, and attention to detail.
  • 2+ years of experience as a growth marketer in eCommerce managing acquisition across major paid channels.
  • Familiarity with performance tracking, measurement, and attribution.
  • An exceptional ability to multitask, take initiative, and execute.
  • Excellent research skills and ability to present data in a clear, concise manner.
  • Experience working independently and managing own schedule.
